Robert Pattinson Cast in Cosmopolis

The last time we were talking about Cosmopolis, it was Colin Farrell who was going to have to lay down naked in the middle of a Manhattan road with Marion Cotillard; now, it’s set to be Robert Pattinson, the poor, unfortunate pin-up of Twihards everywhere.
The film is being adapted from Don De Lillo’s novel by David Cronenberg, and Deadline say that this was the appeal for Pattinson, a fan of both the novelist and filmmaker. And the appeal for Cronenberg in casting Pattinson? Well, nobody’s saying, so let’s just assume it’s because he’s a good actor and he’s right for the role. Some of you hardcore Twilight slammers are going to sniff at that, but I expect you’ll probably be proven wrong in the long run.
When Farrell was in the frame, so was Cotillard, as I said, and also Paul Giamatti. Neither, however, have been re-confirmed, and this one change to the casting as we understood it has only made me a tad doubtful about the rest.
Here’s how I described the novel last time around:
The story, unravelling in the course of a single day, tells of how a billionaire loses his entire fortune during a difficult journey across Manhattan… has a quietly futurist vibe, not unlike the more recent work of William Gibson.
Perfect material, I think, for Cronenberg.
